We are happy to announce a our newest collaboration with the research project Emergencies of Authoritarianism and the April Institute:
Living in Authoritarian Times: Everyday Struggles and Antifascist Tactics
Authoritarianism is not simply a political order, but also deeply affects the everyday: The way we behave, feel, and relate to each other. It has consequences on the emotional level: it might cause indignation, fear, paranoia, resignation, or trauma. It changes relationships: which connections we choose to hold dear and which can become unbearable. And it changes daily routines and ways of life: How and where we move, work, love, and live. This international panel brings scholars and activists from different authoritarian contexts into conversation to shed light on some of the affects, contradictions, dilemmas and other open questions related to the problem: How to live in authoritarian times?
An online conversation with Rahul Bhatia (journalist and author of the book “The New India”), Volkan Çidam (political philosopher, signatory of the “Academics for Peace” letter (2016), Istanbul), Maik Dele Dittrich Frydetzki (artist and cultural researcher, associate of the Christopher Street Day organization (CSD) in Bautzen (Eastern Saxony, Germany), Joseph Howley (Professor of Classics at Columbia University, New York, organizer with the Palestine Solidarity movement). Moderated by Zeynep Gambetti (political theorist and co-chair of the International Board of the International Consortium of Critical Theory).
