Volkan Çıdam İstanbul

Volkan Çıdam received his PhD in philosophy from Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main with a study on Marx’s normative critique of capitalism. From 2019 to 2020, he was a fellow at the Center for Social Critique Berlin. His research interests lie at the intersection of democratic theory, German Idealism, social and political thought of Marx and Marxism and Critical Theory. He has also worked on the Gezi protests and, most recently, on the politics of remembrance. His publications include Die Phänomenologie des Widergeistes: Eine anerkennungstheoretische Deutung von Marx’ normativer Kritik am Kapitalismus im Kapital (2012) [The Phenomenology of the Widergeist. A Recognition-theoretical Interpretation of Marx’s Normative Critique of Capitalism in Capital] and “Adorno’s two-track conceptualization of progress: The new categorical imperative and politics of remembrance” (2020). He currently teaches Political Science at Bilgi University and Işık University.
